This qualification will develop learners’ knowledge and understanding in relation to mental health, mental ill health and wellbeing.
The role of a first aider for mental health is to provide basic mental health support or to be the first response to someone in need, usually in the workplace. The first aider for mental health is not clinically qualified to assess, diagnose or treat mental ill health but they will know the basic tools to listen to individuals who require first response support for their mental health. This is a knowledge-only qualification that provides underpinning knowledge and understanding in relation to the principles of first aid for mental health, recognising mental ill health in self and others, supporting mental wellbeing in the workplace, understanding how to promote a wellness culture in the workplace and the importance of resilience and self-care for first aiders for mental health.
This qualification is aimed at individuals who looking for an introductory level qualification in substance misuse. It is useful for learners working in a variety of sectors. These include substances that are commonly misused and why, recognising possible signs of substance misuse, being aware of the social and personal effects of substance misuse and the perceptions and responses to substance misuse.
This qualification is aimed at individuals wishing to become a paediatric first-aider in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. Topics include the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first-aider and providing first aid for an infant or a child who is unresponsive. The qualification also covers how to administer first aid to an infant or a child with head and spinal injuries, who is choking or suffering from anaphylaxis.
Learners will outline current nutritional guidelines for a healthy diet, describe the impact diet has on health, describe food preparation techniques that maintain the nutritional value of food and understand how to plan and provide meals for those with special diets (including medical needs, allergies, vegans, vegetarians and diets for different faiths).
The objective of this qualification is to enable learners to understand the Law in relation to sexual relationships and consent and increase their knowledge and understanding of factors that may result in high risk sexual activity. Its benefits also include an awareness of the personal and social consequences of risky sexual activity and knowledge of how individuals can be supported regarding their sexual health and signposted to appropriate services.
The objective of this qualification is to enable individuals with an interest in health help others develop a healthier lifestyle by encouraging physical activity. Learners will increase their knowledge and understanding of why individuals may not actively participate in physical activity, the health benefits of physical activity and how individuals can be helped and supported to improve their health by increasing their level of physical activity.
The importance of communication skills and using them effectively, with an emphasis on effective listening skills.
This course will be blended learning where learners will be expected to attend classroom situation on a weekly basis and then given tasks to complete at home in preparation for the following week. The course will help you look at how emotions affect wellbeing and mental health, dealing with negative emotions and useful tips and strategies to help understand and manage feelings of anger/frustration, anxiety, confidence, low self-esteem, and self-worth. The course will incorporate exercise, nutrition, personal hygiene, mindfulness and coping strategies.

The total qualification time for this qualification is 360 hours and of these 140 hours are recommended as guided learning hours. These include understanding roles and responsibilities, planning to meet the needs of learners, delivering, assessing learners and using resources for education and training, as well as an extensive range of optional units.
Advice and guidance qualifications
These qualifications for those working with clients in organisations providing advice and guidance services, on a professional or voluntary basis.
Guided Learning Hours: 132 - 144 This level is ideal if your role involves providing advice and guidance directly to clients, reporting to line management as well as associated services. You may also supervise and support other staff members.
Guided Learning Hours: 213 - 269 This level is ideal if your role involves providing specialist advice and guidance to clients, reporting to senior management and networking with associated services.
